What was your inspiration or the idea behind your
Verb design?
Skate or die!
Could you briefly explain the process you went
through in creating this work?
Drink, eat, smoke, think, sleep, pencil, pen, computer.
What music were you listening to while you were
creating your graphics for the Verb range?
Bob Dylan.
Did you have any formal art education, or are you
self-taught?
Fortunately I had both. My mother is an artist and she
encouraged me to draw, etc from a young age.
I’m mostly self-taught through practice, trial and error,
experimentation with different styles and mediums,
research into past and present artists and movements,
and listening to critique and compliments.
I was lucky enough to attend art school – Pro Arte
Alphen Park High School – where I had some really
great teachers and awesome friends who challenged
and taught me so much. After high school I studied
fine art for a year and decided to take the next year
off to work on and experiment with painting and
drawings. In March of 2004 myself and two of my best
friends, 35-ten-73 and Elbowgrease, founded Love and
Hate studio
What sort of full-time work do you do currently? Are
there any other projects you’re involved with at the
moment?
I’ve been working for Love and Hate studio since
2004. We’re busy with a list of new products and have
some awesome exhibitions and projects coming up.
What sorts of mediums do you work in and what do
you enjoy about it?
Pen, ink and paint on paper, paint on canvas, wood
and walls, silkscreen on paper and fabric, koki on
anything I can find, mixed media, film, photography
and finally the iMac! I enjoy freedom of expression.
More recently I’ve really been enjoying work on a
bigger scale on things like walls. A positive of having
your works on walls in public spaces is that it isn’t
owned by one particular person, it’s there for everyone
and belongs to the public.
